CNSW celebrates Play Cricket Week with #cricketanywhere

Cricket NSW is calling on all young cricketers to register for the summer ahead with the launch of Play Cricket Week for 2024.

Running from August 19-25, Play Cricket Week encourages young players across the country with all levels of experience and ability to sign up to play for the 24/25 cricket season.

This year’s theme “Cricket Anywhere” emphasises cricket is a sport for all that is not restricted to a field, backyard or beach. Across the week, all Australians are encouraged to showcase the versatility of the sport, sharing the places they enjoy cricket on social media with #cricketanywhere.

Cricket NSW is celebrating the week with a host of activities across the state. It started with an appearance by Australian men’s Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins, and Australian women’s captain, Alyssa Healy, on this morning at Bradleys Head Amphitheatre to launch the Week.

Later in the day, Australian men’s team member, bowler Josh Hazlewood, and Australian women’s representative and Sydney Thunder mainstay, Hannah Darlington, joined a group of young cricketers from the Carlingford Waratah Cricket Club at Somerville Park, Eastwood for a game of cricket.

On Wednesday this week, a new social competition for young female cricketers, Girls Social Cricket, will be launched at Cricket Central where girls from across Sydney will get the chance to play cricket with Australian cricketers.

On August 22 and 23, 35 players from W/BBL clubs Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder and the Blues and Breakers teams will travel to schools and cricket grounds in communities across the State as part of the Country Blitz, Cricket NSW’s annual regional engagement tour.

The 35 players are set to visit 12 Country NSW regions to meet children from over 40 schools in 37 towns, participate in 15 come-and-try days and cricket clinics across these regions and also attend 20 meet and greet events, which include media opportunities and spending time with our wonderful volunteers.

On August 24 and 25, Woolworths stores across various towns in NSW will allow local cricket clubs to set up storefront booths to build awareness of the sport, provide information on local playing opportunities and encourage parents to sign up their children to play cricket this season, to set the field for another great summer of cricket.

For further information on how to sign up, visit playcricket.com.au.
