Tremain, Davies fire Blues to victory in final round of Sheffield Shield

The NSW Men’s team signed off their Marsh Sheffield Shield season in style with a convincing five-wicket triumph over Queensland at Allan Border Field.

After dismissing the hosts for 144 in the first innings, courtesy of a six-wicket haul from Chris Tremain, NSW replied with a first innings 316 as Ollie Davies struck a career-best 131, his second First-Class century in as many matches.

The Bulls responded with a better effort in their second knock, Jimmy Pierson (64) and Xavier Bartlett (69), who added a second-half century to his first innings 70, top-scoring as they were all out for 301.

Tanveer Sangha was the pick of the bowlers for the Blues with 4-116, whilst Tremain ended with match figures of 9-63 to top the First-Class wicket-taking charts for the regular season with 50 scalps at 15.90.

Chasing 130 to win, Daniel Hughes began the innings in rapid fashion, his attacking 31-ball 54 pushing the Blues beyond halfway to their target.

Despite Bulls debutant Callum Vidler taking 3-38, skipper Moises Henriques (29*) was on hand to finish the match in style with a maximum off the youngster, the target successfully chased down in 28.2 overs.

The victory, the Blues’ fourth of the summer to go with three draws and three losses, sees them finish third in the table, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
