Cricket NSW is thrilled to announce the extension of NSW Blues head coach Greg Shipperd contract for an additional two years, securing his leadership through to the end of the 2026-27 season.
One of Australian cricket’s most revered coaches, Shipperd’s impact on the game cannot be understated, boasting over three decades of experience.
Renowned for his strategic and tactical acumen, Shipperd remains one of the most successful coaches in domestic cricket, with a proven track record of building strong, winning teams.
Known for his grounded, team-first approach, there are few figures in the game with a comparable record of sustained excellence and success in fostering high-performing sides.
A former top-order batter, the right-hander represented Western Australia and Tasmania across a successful first-class career, spanning 14 years and 112 appearances.
Following the end of his playing career, Shipperd was appointed to lead Tasmania and Victoria – each for over a decade, respectively – winning four Sheffield Shield titles, in addition to numerous victories in the domestic One-Day Cup and Twenty20 Big Bash competitions, in an era marked by success.
Beginning his long-standing relationship with Cricket NSW close to a decade ago, Shipperd was announced as Sydney Sixers head coach in 2015; now boasting two BBL titles (BBL|09 and BBL|10) with the franchise.
In addition to his roles domestically, Shipperd has held coaching positions overseas, named the inaugural coach of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, heading up the side for four seasons.
Speaking about Shipperd, Cricket NSW Chief of Cricket Performance, Greg Mail said:
“We have been fortunate to have had Greg’s influence with the Blues across the past two seasons.
“The environment he is able to create amongst his coaching staff, and the playing group is centred in care, learning and improvement and we have seen significant steps forward in terms of individual development and team performance.
“Greg is a driven and competitive coach, and we look forward to his continued leadership as the Blues chase silverware.”
On the opportunity to continue his role with Cricket NSW, Shipperd said:
“It’s an absolute privilege to coach the Blues and also to represent Cricket NSW. Ever since I walked through the door a number of years ago, it’s been an absolute pleasure.
“There’s a fabulous team that sits behind me and I’m excited to work with them and I’m excited also to work with the range of ages and talents that we have.
“We’re building a foundation, hopefully, that will set NSW cricket up for the next generation.”
