FAQ’s – Womens Metropolitan Cup for Cricket Clubs
The Women’s Metropolitan Competition has been established to offer more opportunities to female cricketers (16yrs & above) to participate in a social but competitive environment across metro Sydney. Games in 2026/27 will be played both before and after the Christmas break.
When does it start?
Sunday afternoons – likely to be in mid October.
Number of games will depend on number of teams, but we are aiming for 6 – 8 weeks of play across Metro Sydney before Christmas and again after.
How often are the games?
Weekly played on a Sunday afternoon.
Games will be played at 1pm on Sunday afternoons at grounds nominated by you.
It is likely to be home and away fixtures, preferably on a synthetic pitch.
What is the format?
These are T30 games to give everyone an opportunity to play. The playing conditions will specify details regarding batting retirements ( so everyone gets a go😊)
This is a 11 a side competition.
We anticipate a squad of 13 players to ensure games happen each week.
The minimum number of players for a game to go ahead needs to be 8.
How does my club join this competition?
Complete the Team Entry EOI form on this webpage to be invited to register a team.
How much does it cost to play?
Club team entry fee to Cricket NSW is approx. $250 (exclusive of GST)
Each club can determine their own player registration fee. Please consider that this is a new competition for new players and some may wish to play in the Spring Comp or Summer Comp only.
What level of experience is needed? Are there skill restrictions?
This is traditional cricket so players would need to have played cricket at some point.
There will be a need to wear protective equipment ie helmet, bats and gloves.
As this is the first year this competition is being run, there is likely to be a range of experience and skill on each team and between teams.
The bowlers must be able to bowl correctly off a full-length pitch ( 20.1m)
Do I need to provide equipment to players.
Players will need to wear protective equipment ie helmet, bats and gloves. Players may bring their own – but you may have to provide some equipment.
Clubs will need to provide balls for each game.
Will my club need to provide a coach?
Your club could provide a coach for your team to make a great experience.
Who will umpire the games?
Cricket NSW accredited umpires will provided.
Clubs will be invoiced once the season has completed.
