FAQ’s – Womens Metropolitan Cup for participants
The Women’s Metropolitan Competition has been established to offer more opportunities to female cricketers (16yrs & above) to participate in a fun and competitive environment across metro Sydney. Games will be played in February and March 2026.
When does it start?
Sunday afternoons 1st Feb 2026.
Number of games will depend on number of teams, but we are aiming for 6 – 8 weeks of play across Metro Sydney.
How often are the games?
Weekly played on a Sunday afternoon in February and March.
Games will be played at 1pm on Sunday afternoons at grounds nominated by your club.
It is likely to be home and away fixtures, on a synthetic pitch.
What type of pitch will the games be played on?
Each game will be played on a full-length synthetic pitch.
What is the format?
These are T30 games to give everyone an opportunity to play. The playing conditions will specify details regarding batting retirements ( so everyone gets a go😊)
This is a 9 a side competition.
How do I join?
Please join one of the clubs listed on the website. Please reach out to your local club to indicate your interest in playing.
How much does it cost to play?
Clubs will set their own fee for you to join them to play this competition.
This will include the Cricket NSW team entry fee and any other fees like uniforms, training, equipment etc.
What level of experience is needed? Are there skill restrictions?
This is traditional cricket so you would need to have played cricket at some point in your life.
There will be a need to wear protective equipment ie helmet, bats and gloves.
As this is the first year this competition is being run, there is likely to be a range of experience and skill on each team and between teams.
The bowlers must be able to bowl correctly off a full-length pitch (20.1m)
Do I have to play each week?
No, as long as there are enough players from your club to take the field. It is a 9 a side game.
The minimum number to play each week is 6 players!! 😊( hard work for them….)
Do I need all the equipment? I don’t have pads or gloves anymore.
You will need to wear protective equipment ie helmet, bats and gloves. Your club may well have this for you to borrow.
Are there coaches provided?
Your club may well provide a coach for your team. Enquire with the local club.
Who will umpire the games?
Clubs will need to provide an Umpire ( or a spare player)
