The Proud Legacy of the NSW Breakers

Women’s cricket in New South Wales has been at the heart of the game’s story since 1931, when Margaret Peden captained the state’s first women’s team. From those pioneering beginnings, NSW has become a powerhouse in Australian cricket, producing world-class players and setting the standard for excellence on and off the field.

The NSW Breakers have set the benchmark for success in Australian domestic cricket, claiming a record 21 titles in 29 seasons of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), including an unmatched 10 straight championships between 2005-06 and 2014-15. Their most recent triumph came in the 2024-25 season, lifting the Ruth Preddey Trophy once again.

That winning tradition is no coincidence. Built on a culture of high performance, resilience, and leadership, the Breakers have consistently produced some of Australia’s most celebrated cricketers among them are current Australia stars Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, and Phoebe Litchfield. Their impact on the national stage reflects the professionalism and ambition that define the NSW program.

Now led by Lauren Cheatle, the Breakers continue to uphold the state’s proud tradition of excellence and leadership in the women’s game. Fresh off their 2024-25 WNCL title, the current squad combines world-class experience with exciting emerging talent, a group ready to write the next chapter in the state’s proud history.
