Cricket NSW has today congratulated Moises Henriques, the former NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers captain and the most capped player in Australian domestic cricket history, on his retirement from Australian cricket.
Moises Henriques retires from Australian cricket
Henriques, who migrated from Portugal to Australia as a child, signed his first NSW contract aged 17, and played all 15 seasons of the BBL to date with the Sydney Sixers.
The 39-year-old departs the game having won 14 major trophies with Cricket NSW teams, while he also represented Australia in all three formats, earning Australian men’s Test cap number 432.
Henriques’ contribution to the game will continue in his role as Cricket NSW Foundation Director, which he has held since late 2025.

In the role, he will draw on his personal experiences as a child whose journey to professional cricket was supported by the generosity of others, while also harnessing the same attributes that made him one of Australian cricket’s most revered players and leaders.
Henriques departs as the most capped player in Australian domestic cricket history, including holding the Big Bash League caps record, and the only player to surpass 400 cumulative appearances.
Of his 420 matches for Australian domestic teams, Henriques played:
- 110 First-Class matches for NSW, including 33 as captain. Three-time Sheffield Shield winner, 2019-20 Player of the Year, 2013-14 Player of the Final. 6061 runs and 96 wickets.
- 112 List A matches for NSW, including 25 as captain. Five-time One-Day Cup winner. 3465 runs and 63 wickets.
- 38 T20 matches for NSW, including six as captain. 2008-09 Twenty20 Big Bash winner. 2009-10 Champions League winner. 544 runs and 31 wickets.
- 160 T20 matches for the Sydney Sixers, including 129 as captain. Three-time BBL champion, BBL|01 Player of the Final, 2012-13 Champions League winner. 3410 runs and 30 wickets.
Henriques’ full domestic retirement follows the conclusion of his First-Class career a year ago. He played five matches in the Blues’ successful One-Day Cup campaign in 2025-26 and led the Sixers to the BBL|15 Final but was not offered a contract for BBL|16.
Moises Henriques, NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers great and Cricket NSW Foundation Director, said:
“I have been very fortunate to call cricket my job for the past 22 years as a professional athlete.
“I had interest from other BBL teams, but it just didn’t feel right to go elsewhere.
“To the people I’ve been fortunate enough to play with and work alongside, I’d like to thank you. If it weren’t for those relationships and the deep care I have for them, I’m sure I would have reached this day much earlier.
“I think it’s time for me to call stumps on my career and start looking forward to the next chapter of my life.”
John Knox, Cricket NSW Chairman, said:
“On behalf of the Cricket NSW Board, our organisation and our state’s cricket community, I congratulate Moises Henriques on his outstanding playing career with the NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers.
“Moises is the most capped player in Australian domestic cricket history, with his 420 matches across 22 years with our programs yielding 14 major trophies, over 13,000 runs and 200 wickets. This is a remarkable record.
“His lasting legacy on the playing group will be his leadership. This trait was identified in him from an early age, and he led his sides in almost half of the matches he played across those two decades.
“We congratulate him on his achievements as a player and look forward to continuing to work with him as Cricket NSW Foundation Director.”
