McDonald’s Male Country Championships set to showcase regional talent

Regional NSW’s top male cricketers will converge on Newcastle and the Central Coast from 27 – 30 November for the McDonald’s Male Country Championships.

Zones from across the state including defending champions Newcastle, along with Central Coast, Riverina, Western, and North Coastal, will compete across three one-day matches and two T20 fixtures as part of the Plan B Country Bash. The four-day carnival offers players a high-performance environment and the opportunity to push for selection in the NSW Country Men’s team.

Regional Cricket Board Chair Paul Majoribanks said the Championships continue to play a vital role in strengthening cricket across the state.

“The McDonald’s Male Country Championships is a great showcase of the Open Men’s players we have competing across regional NSW. It provides a valuable opportunity for our selectors as they look to name the Men’s NSW Country side,” Majoribanks said.

Majoribanks also acknowledged the community effort behind delivering the tournament.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of Newcastle Council for their ongoing commitment to this carnival and for helping make events like this possible.

“We would also like to thank the volunteers from both the Central Coast and Newcastle for their tireless work to bring the Championships to life.”

Chair of the Sports Infrastructure Working Party Councillor Peta Winney-Baartz said City of Newcastle is proud to support the tournament.

“We’re delighted to welcome teams, coaches, their families and supporters from across NSW to Newcastle,” Cr Winney-Baartz said.

“No.1 Sportsground and Waratah Oval will provide ideal venues for players to push their case for selection in the Men’s NSW Country team.

“In between matches I hope they take the opportunity to join their family and friends to explore everything our wonderful city has to offer.”

All matches will be live-streamed, with links available via the Country Cricket NSW Facebook page.
