Emerging stars gear up for Bradman Cup action in regional NSW

Regional NSW’s top under-16 male cricketers are set to take centre stage this weekend as the Bradman Cup gets underway in Port Macquarie and Orange.

In Orange, Southern pool action sees defending champions Greater Illawarra take on Riverina, Southern Districts, and Western. Meanwhile, the Northern pool matches in Port Macquarie will feature Central Coast, Central Northern, Newcastle, and North Coastal.

Following this weekend, all teams will reconvene in Albury early next year to complete the competition.

In welcoming the return of the Bradman Cup, Regional Cricket Board Chair Paul Majoribanks highlighted the tournament’s importance to the state’s talent pathway.

“The Bradman Cup is a vital part of our player development pathway, giving emerging cricketers from across the state the chance to compete, learn, and grow in a supportive, competitive environment.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the councils of Port Macquarie and Orange for helping make these events possible - their support will have a lasting impact on the game’s future in regional NSW.”

Reflecting on the event’s significance Port Maquarie-Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts emphasised the value of the Bradman Cup Carnival to young cricketers and the wider community.

"The Bradman Cup Carnival is a fantastic celebration of young sporting talent across regional NSW.

"This prestigious tournament provides an important pathway for up-and-coming cricketers, giving regional teams the chance to compete at a high level and showcase their skills.

“Council is proud to help foster regional sport, encourage healthy competition, and bring communities together in celebration of our next generation of cricket stars."

Speaking on Orange’s role as host city, Mayor Tony Mileto emphasised the community’s enthusiasm for welcoming the state’s top young talent.

“Orange is proud to welcome the state’s most talented young cricketers for the Bradman Cup Carnival.

“This event is not just about cricket; it’s about showcasing the strength of regional sport and the opportunities it creates for young people.

“We’re pleased to provide a stage where tomorrow’s cricket stars can shine and where our community can come together to celebrate their talent and hard work.”
