Western Suburbs have claimed their first ever Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup Premiership – and their first First Grade title since 1974/75, with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Randwick Petersham at Coogee Oval on Sunday.
Western Suburbs Claim Historic Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup Title
In front of 500 spectators, the final highlighted Premier Cricket at its best, with Western Suburbs producing a strong batting display to chase down 182 with ease.
Randwick Petersham, the competition’s only undefeated side heading into the decider, set an imposing total of 7-181 from their 20 overs. Param Uppal (41), Eknoor Singh (30) and Riley Ayre (28*) anchored the innings, while Wests’ Jack Bermingham (3/33) was the pick of the bowlers.
In reply, Western Suburbs made light work of the chase, reaching the target in 18.3 overs thanks to a superb captain’s knock from James Psarakis. His unbeaten 83 from 53 balls guided his side to the title and earned him Player of the Match honours.
Josh Philippe, returning from Australian duties to represent his club, got Wests off to a flying start with a blistering 64 from 37 balls, while Farhan Zakhail (28*) helped see the team home at 3-182.
Thanks to umpires Greg Davidson and Simon Lightbody, match referee Laurie Borg, and the Randwick Petersham ground staff for their efforts in ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted final.
Cricket NSW extends its gratitude to Harry Solomons and Kingsgrove Sports for their continued support of Premier Cricket. The champions received $8,000 in prize money, with the runners-up awarded $4,000.
Special thanks also go to Mike Whitney, John Stewart and the Randwick Petersham club for their warm hospitality and contribution to an outstanding final.
