Roberto Howard has today made his men’s List A umpiring debut at Cricket Central Oval, standing in the One Day Cup match between New South Wales and South Australia.
Howard Makes List A Umpiring Debut
He becomes the 46th member of the New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association to officiate at this level, joining Shawn Craig on-field with David Gilbert as Match Referee.
Howard’s umpiring journey began more than a decade ago in NSW Premier Cricket, where he made his first-grade debut at Chatswood Oval in 2016. Since then, he has established himself as a respected official at all levels of the game. Elevated to the NSW State Umpire Panel in 2018, he went on to debut in the WBBL later that year and has now officiated 45 matches in the competition. He has also been a consistent performer in Men’s Second XI cricket, with more than 100 first-grade Premier Cricket matches to his name.
Nationally, Howard has stood in Cricket Australia National Championships, including the finals of the Under 17 Male National Championships in 2019-20 and the Under 19s in 2022-23. His progress was recognised with elevation to the Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel in July 2024, following completion of the CA High Performance (Level 3) Officiating Accreditation.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Howard is admired for his professionalism, humility, and willingness to mentor others. A selfless contributor to NSWCUSA education and training programs, he is highly respected by peers for his integrity and commitment to the match officials’ team.
Cricket NSW congratulates Roberto on reaching this significant milestone and wishes him every success for today’s debut and the seasons ahead.
