Crushers secure maiden Brewer Shield title on home turf

Caoimhe Bray underlined her burgeoning potential with a sensational double-century as Greater Hunter Coast secured their first Brewer Shield title in just their second season, at Townson Oval in Newcastle on Sunday.

The hosts’ number three struck 22 fours and 11 sixes in a 134-ball 202, eventually dismissed with the final ball of the Crushers’ innings, in which they posted 8/295.

The Waratahs, led by leading run-scorer Charlotte Croll (39), started brightly but couldn’t muster a sustained attempt at Greater Hunter Coast’s total, all out for 96.

After a dominant 127-run triumph over defending champions UTS North Sydney in the semi-finals, the Crushers went even better in front of home support in Newcastle, running out 199-run victors.
