Blues squad for SA Shield fixture

NSW Men’s team selectors have announced a 12-player squad for the next Marsh Sheffield Shield match, a clash against South Australia, starting this Friday (March 1) at Cricket Central.

The Blues are coming off a draw against Victoria and remain in fourth place on the Shield ladder behind leaders Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia, with this week’s match and one further round to play. All four teams can still make the competition’s final.

The full Sheffield Shield standings can be found HERE.

Leg spinner Smit Raval has been included in the squad and is a chance to make his debut for the Blues after several high-quality seasons for Blacktown Mounties in the NSW Premier Cricket competition.

Raval, who moved to Australia from India in 2018 on a student visa, has played a pair of Second Xl matches for NSW this summer, including their most recent fixture against the ACT where he took 3/110 from 35 overs in the first innings and 3/59 from 17 overs in ACT’s second dig.

Raval’s selection is a strong recognition of his continued stellar form in Premier Cricket.

Ryan Hadley returns to the squad for the first time this season after making his Shield debut last summer, while Jack Nisbet has also been included.

Jackson Bird, Liam Hatcher and Nathan Lyon drop out of the 12 that played the last round. Bird is nursing a hamstring complaint with a view to return for the final Sheffield Shield round next month, Hatcher is being managed due to soreness and Lyon is representing Australia in the Test series in New Zealand.

Play begins at 10.30am (Sydney time) and will be broadcast live on cricket.com.au and Kayo.
