The leading under-16 male cricketers from across regional NSW are ready to kickstart their Bradman Cup campaigns, with the esteemed junior country cricket competition scheduled to begin in Kempsey and Wagga Wagga over the weekend.
Bradman Cup to feature country cricket stars of tomorrow
Fixtures from the Northern pool will be played in Kempsey, where defending champions, Newcastle, meet Central Coast, Central Northern and North Coastal line-ups.
Action from the Southern pool will see Western, Riverina, Greater Illawarra and Southern Districts face-off, with matches to take place in Wagga Wagga.
Following this weekend, all teams will reconvene in the Illawarra area next year, from January 8-11, to complete the competition.
The Player of the Bradman Cup this year will be awarded the newly minted Nathan Lyon Medal.
Chair of Country Cricket Paul Marjoribanks said:
"The Bradman Cup has consistently produced exceptional talent over the years. Many players who have graced the international stage started their journey right here, including current Australian player Nathan Lyon.
“It's a fantastic opportunity for these young cricketers to showcase their skills and make a name for themselves.”
This weekend’s fixtures also serve as an opportunity for players to push their case for selection into the U17 NSW Country team that will compete at the U17 Male National Championships, to be held in Melbourne from January 4-11, 2024.
All matches will be live-streamed, with links to be made available on the Country Cricket Facebook page on the day of the match: https://www.facebook.com/CCNSW
