The NSW cricket community is saddened by the passing of Ruth Irwin, NSW cap 112, aged 87.

A top-order batter from Tamworth, Ruth debuted for NSW in January 1965 against Western Australia at Prell Oval, Goulburn. She represented her state on three subsequent occasions.

Her contribution to cricket extended beyond her playing years, firstly as secretary of the Waratah Club, before playing a key role in the formation of the Sydney Women’s Cricket Association in 1985 as convenor of its Disciplinary Committee.

Known as ‘Davo’ after her maiden name Davidson, Ruth was a popular figure in the women’s game, known for her calm and friendly nature.

Cricket NSW extends its condolences to Ruth’s family and friends at this difficult time.
