NSW College of Sport developing future industry leaders

The NSW College of Sport has welcomed its inaugural cohort of students, marking a significant milestone in the development of the next generation of Australia’s sporting professionals.

Delivered in partnership with UOW College Australia (RTO91159), owned by the University of Wollongong, and based at Cricket Central, the new College offers a rare, immersive learning environment within a high-performance sporting precinct. The program combines applied education with direct access to leading sports administrators, coaches and practitioners.

The first intake brings together students pursuing careers across coaching, sports management and high-performance environments, including Lauren Gray and Coby Holland.

Students embrace hands-on, industry-connected learning

Lauren Gray, a lifelong netballer from the Sutherland Shire, said the program has already broadened her perspective on the sports industry.

“Being exposed to different sports and environments like cricket and rugby has been eye-opening,” Gray said. “The hands-on learning makes the course far more engaging and has helped me see how many career pathways exist beyond playing.”

Cricket has long been central to Coby Holland’s ambitions. The Camden-based student, who plays with Premier Club Fairfield–Liverpool, said the College’s industry links and practical focus were key drawcards.

“I’ve always known I wanted a career in sport,” Holland said. “Being part of the first graduating cohort is something I’m really proud of, and this course feels like a genuine pathway into the industry.”

Strong industry links set the program apart

Expo Mejia, Education Manager at the NSW College of Sport, said the program was designed to prepare students for the real-world demands of the sports sector.

“Our students are learning in the same environments where elite sport is delivered,” Mejia said. “They’re networking daily with industry leaders and applying leadership principles directly through their work placements. That experience is invaluable.”

With its combination of industry access, practical education and motivated students, the NSW College of Sport is positioning itself as a key talent pipeline for Australia’s sporting sector.
