Future stars light up inaugural Junior Community Cup

The NSW Junior Community Cup took place in Manly last week, with junior clubs from Lisarow to North Sydney descending on the area to compete for glory.

In a replica format of the NSW Community Cup, it was the kids who vied for the chance to lift the cup on behalf of their local clubs.

A total of 812 junior participants competed, with teams representing regions from Bowral through Sydney and up to Maitland.

In Big Bash League format, 56 teams across four age groups (U12 Boys, U13 Boys & Girls, U15 Boys) competed across NSW for the chance to play finals at Nolans Reserve, Manly.

Split into Sydney Sixers teams and Sydney Thunder teams, participants experienced W/BBL-style conditions, including power surges, free hits and fielding timers.

The competition attracted strong interest in its inaugural season, with a total of 812 junior participants from across NSW taking part including Maitland, Bowral, Illawarra and Lisarow to reach the finals.

Under 12 Mixed

Competition Winners: North Sydney Mixed 1 

The U12 Mixed division was won by North Sydney Mixed 1 after their spectacular performance over Lane Cove Cricket Club U12 Mixed team by 64 runs.

With the Player of the Big Dance going to Leonardo West of North Sydney CC, who scored 51 off 36 balls to see his club to division victory.

Across this division, Darcy Nelson of North Richmond CC was the leading run scorer finishing up on 290 runs at 145.

The Under 12 Mixed leading wicket taker was Asher Augustine of the North Sydney Cricket Club, who took an impressive 16 wickets at 10.13.

Nelson and Augustine also both secured the Finals Yellow Caps for batting and bowling respectively. 

 

Under 13 Girls

Competition Winners: Kellyville Supersonics SCC 

Kellyville Supersonics SCC took out the U13 Girls division win over Randwick Junior Cricket Club by 47 runs.

Maya Venkatraman was named Player of the Big Dance, producing a match-winning spell of 4 for 6 from 4 overs.

Chloe Goraya of Kellyville Supersonics SCC finished the season as the leading run scorer, amassing 195 runs at an outstanding average of 97.5.

Goraya also dominated with the ball, claiming 9 wickets at an average of 6.33 to be the competition’s leading wicket taker.

In finals matches, the Yellow Cap for batting went to Chloe Goraya after she scored 134 runs at an average of 67.

The Finals Yellow Cap for bowling was awarded to Jemima Cheng from Lisarow Ourimbah CC, who took 7 wickets at an average of 5.85.

Under 13 Mixed

Competition Winners: Jordan Springs Cricket Club

Jordan Springs CC were crowned U13 Mixed competition winners, capping off a strong season over the Schofields Cricket Club U13 by 7 wickets.

Tanveer Chhabra was named U13 Mixed Player of the Big Dance, contributing 31 runs and an impressive return of 1 for 2 from 2 overs in the final.

William Bryan of Lisarow Ourimbah CC led the Under 13 Mixed competition with the bat, scoring 298 runs at an exceptional average of 149.

The leading wicket taker was Thomas Kirkman from Northern Suburbs Maitland CC, who claimed 12 wickets at an average of 11.58.

William Bryan also took home the Finals Yellow Cap for batting after tallying 169 runs at an average of 84.5 across the finals.

The Finals Yellow Cap for bowling was awarded to Om Patel of Schofields CC, who finished with 9 wickets at an average of 8.9.

Under 15 Mixed  

Competition Winners: Jordan Springs CC 

Jordan Springs CC finished the season on top in U15 Mixed as well, taking out the competition title after a standout campaign defeating Lisarow Ourimbah U15 Mixed by 40 runs.

The Big Dance belonged to Guneet Maingi, who was named Player of the Match after a match‑winning knock of 40 from 38 balls.

With the bat in hand, Harrison Drummond of St Augustine’s College JC was the run‑scoring machine, piling on 208 runs at an impressive average of 69.33, securing the division leading run scorer.

Lachlan Winfield from Randwick JCC led the charge with the ball, snapping up 9 wickets at a sharp average of 8.78 to finish as the leading wicket taker.

The Finals Yellow Cap for batting went to Angad Panaych of North Sydney CC, who rose to the occasion with 121 runs at an average of 40.33.

North Sydney CC doubled up in the finals, with Will Tomes earning the Finals Yellow Cap for bowling after claiming 8 wickets at an average of 6.75.
