Greg Shipperd to leave Cricket NSW

Cricket NSW will part ways with NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers Head Coach, Greg Shipperd, at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.

Shipperd’s association with Cricket NSW began in 2015, when he was named Sixers’ Head Coach ahead of KFC BBL|05.

Across eleven seasons and 145 matches under his watch, the club won two titles in BBL|09 and BBL|10 and played in nine of 11 finals series.

In November 2022, Shipperd took charge of the Blues in an interim capacity, before being appointed to the post in May 2023.

The experienced mentor has strengthened the state’s male program during a period spanning 31 Sheffield Shield and 22 One-Day Cup matches, which included an appearance in the 2023-24 One-Day Cup Final.

Shipperd will oversee the Blues’ remaining four Sheffield Shield and two One-Day Cup matches this season, and any Finals should the team qualify.

Cricket NSW will commence the process to identify a new Head Coach for each of the NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers. No decision has been made on whether both positions will be held by the same coach or separated.

Lee Germon, Cricket NSW Chief Executive Officer, said:

“Greg Shipperd’s leadership has had a positive impact on the NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers throughout his association with Cricket NSW.

“His strong work ethic and tactical nous drove the Sixers to two BBL titles and nine finals appearances in his 11 seasons at the helm.

“Alongside this, his experience in building strong high performance systems has strengthened the Blues’ program and seen several promising young players begin their First Class careers.

“I would like to thank Greg for his contribution to Cricket NSW and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

“Decisions to change key personnel are never easy, but we felt it was time to move in a new direction to give the Blues and Sixers the best chance to win titles.”

Greg Shipperd, outgoing NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers Head Coach, said:

“Cricket NSW is such a historical and beautiful beast and it has been an honour and privilege to coach the NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers for such a period.

“The organisation is made of folk from the country to the city and of all dimensions - sports lovers, builders of community, a vehicle for good.

“With 10 NSW-contracted players, not including the big five Test players, engaged in Australian and Australian A duties, domestic finals still beckoning and more good stories abounding, the future is promising.

"My contract was to conclude at the end of the 2026/27 season and so I’m incredibly disappointed that I will not have the opportunity to honour my commitment and continue to develop the wonderful young players I have been working with.

"I am extremely proud of my coaching team for building the foundation of a new generation and I wish them all success beyond my time here."
