Junior Community Cup: New chapter for young cricketers

On the weekend of November 29, 2025, young stars lit up the pitch in the very first rounds of the NSW Junior Community Cricket Cup (Junior Cup) – their own taste of the electrifying Big Bash League (W/BBL) experience.

Inspired by the high-octane W/BBL format and the popular NSW Community Cricket Cup for seniors, the Junior Cup brings together boys’ and girls’ teams in the Sixers and Thunder conferences for a summer of fast-paced T20 action.

This initiative is all about turning up the Big Bash vibes for our junior cricketers – boosting fandom for Sydney’s two powerhouse clubs while creating more opportunities for kids to play the game they love in true T20 style.

Every match is pure entertainment: power surges, free hits, power plays, and zing bails – all the features that make Big Bash cricket so spectacular.

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 64 teams in the inaugural year
  • U12s: 17 teams
  • U13 Mixed: 23 teams
  • U13 Girls: 6 teams
  • U15s: 15 teams

While Sydney teams dominate the lineup in its first year, the competition welcomed teams from Maitland and the Central Coast too.

A big highlight of year one is an all-girls’ cohort among the U13 players. Two of the six teams in this group kicked off the first match of the Junior Cup last week, and Central Coast’s Lisarow (3/152) defeated Narara-Wyoming (6/74) with the help of a quickfire 32 off 24 balls by Lisarow’s Ellyse Munday.

Matches are scheduled to be played throughout the summer until April.

Upon registering, every team receives a T20 Sixers or Thunder starter pack to kick off their journey to Junior Cup glory. Each pack is bursting with team colours and includes 10 branded fielding discs, zinc sticks, wristbands, and zing bails.

The Junior Cup guarantees four pool matches played throughout summer for each team, building to an epic carnival-style finals series at Nolan’s Reserve in Manly in April 2026. The top teams will battle it out there for the ultimate trophy, with plenty of prizes for other winners along the way.
