Claydon Set for List A Umpiring Debut

The Men’s One Day Cup opener marks a special milestone for former professional cricketer Mitch Claydon, who makes his List A umpiring debut in the match between New South Wales and Tasmania. He takes to the field alongside Shawn Craig, with David Gilbert serving as the Cricket Australia match referee.

Claydon brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having played 375 professional matches across First-Class, List A and T20 cricket in the UK and New Zealand, as well as many seasons in NSW Premier Cricket. After retiring from playing, he turned to coaching, joining the Sydney Sixers’ BBL staff, before pursuing a career in officiating.

Since beginning umpiring in NSW Premier Cricket in 2019-20, Claydon has risen quickly through the ranks. He has officiated at multiple Cricket Australia National Championships, the Weber WBBL, WNCL and Toyota Second XI competitions, and served as a Reserve Umpire in the KFC BBL. Earlier this year, he was elevated to the Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel.

Beyond the field, Claydon has contributed significantly to umpire education and development, sharing his knowledge and experience through NSWCUSA programs. Respected by peers and admired for his commitment to learning, he has been a strong example of the umpire pathway in Australian cricket.

Today, Claydon becomes the 45th member of the New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association to stand in a List A fixture.

Cricket NSW congratulates Mitch on this achievement and wishes him every success for the 2025–26 season.
