After a delayed start to the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) season due to COVID-related restrictions and border closures, the NSW Breakers are set to launch their 2021-22 summer campaign next month.

Cricket Australia confirmed today that the Breakers will begin their season against Victoria at CitiPower Centre on December 19, in what is their only game prior to Christmas.

NSW will then play two games in Canberra before returning to Sydney for their first home game of the season – against ACT Meteors on January 14 - at North Sydney Oval .

Cricket NSW Interim Head of Female Cricket, Clare Crewdson, said the Breakers would be well prepared for the season ahead.

“The changes to the fixture have meant a later start to the WNCL season but with all of our contracted players part of the WBBL, they have been playing elite cricket for some time now,” Crewdson said.

“Players and staff will get a short break after their WBBL commitments conclude to refresh before the focus shifts to 50-over a side cricket.

“We have a new head coach this season in Gavan Twining and the players are responding really well to his leadership.”

The Breakers players will warm up for the season in McDonald’s NSW Women’s Premier Cricket, coupled with a trial game against the ACT in Canberra on December 9.
