Days of forecast rain are threatening NSW XI one-day matches against the England Lions at Drummoyne Oval on Sunday and Tuesday.

Match officials will likely wait until Sunday morning before deciding if play is possible in the first match.

Separate NSW XI teams are due to play the England Lions in the two 50-over matches as part of the Lions’ tour of Australia.

Sydney Thunder spinner Arjun Nair will captain the side that plays on Sunday, with NSW Premier Cricket leading run-scorer and NSW Blues batsman Ryan Gibson to captain the team that plays on Tuesday.

BBL players Justin Avendano, Jono Cook and Matt Gilkes will each play a part on Sunday in a team which also features plenty of NSW Premier Cricket talent.

Sunday’s match clashes with the NSW Premier Cricket Limited Overs Quarter-Finals and as a result, players from Sydney University, Parramatta, Sydney, Manly, Randwick-Petersham, Gordon, Penrith, and Eastern Suburbs were not considered for selection.

Tuesday’s team also features a stack of Big Bash and NSW Blues talent.

Fresh from a stunning BBL|09 campaign where he finished as the league’s leading wicket taker with 30 scalps averaging 15, Sydney Thunder left-armer Daniel Sams will look to transfer his T20 form into the 50-over game when he takes his place in the NSW XI.

Both Mickey and Jack Edwards have been selected for Tuesday along with spinners Ben Manenti and Arjun Nair.

NSW Blues batsmen Nick Bertus and Ryan Hackney have also been named.

Hayden Kerr will play on Tuesday continuing a breakout season for the allrounder. Kerr made his domestic One-Day debut for the Blues last year, along with Sydney Thunder stars Jason Sangha and Nathan McAndrew.

Kerr went on to make his BBL debut for the Sixers at the SCG in December.

NSW will also field an XI to play the Lions in a four-day match at North Dalton Park, Wollongong, beginning 2 March, with that squad to be named closer to the match.
