Australian fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins will play for the NSW Metro Futures League team in a four-day match against Tasmania at Blacktown International Sports Park, beginning on Monday.
The two quicks will join nine other NSW Blues’ contracted players in an extremely strong 12-man NSW Metro squad, including Sheffield Shield debutant last season, Param Uppal, who will lead the team next week.
The match against Tasmania will be another step on the road to recovery for both Cummins and Hazlewood.
Both men have spent the majority of the preseason recovering from back injuries.
Cummins recently made his return for the Blues in the JLT One-Day Cup against Queensland at Drummoyne Oval. He claimed 1-56 from nine overs.
Hazlewood was likewise scheduled to return for the Blues in the qualifying finals of the JLT One-Day Cup against Victoria, however the match was abandoned due to rain.
Both bowlers recently made appearances for their respective clubs in McDonald’s NSW Premier Cricket. Cummins claimed 2-12 from six overs for Penrith and, opening the attack for St George, Hazlewood collected 1-30.
Bankstown opening batsman Daniel Solway is the only non-contracted Blues’ player in the NSW Metro squad. He was the leading run-scorer for the metropolitan side last season with 416 runs at 41.6.
Blues paceman Charlie Stobo was the leading fast bowler for NSW Metro in 2017/18. He claimed 11 wickets at 28.45.
Stobo also collected 6-55 for Gordon in the most recent round of the McDonald’s NSW Premier Cricket competition.
Sydney Thunder allrounder Chris Green, who played the second half of the JLT One-Day Cup, will be another of the eleven Blues in the NSW Metro squad.
He celebrated his 25th birthday during the tournament and claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in one-day domestic cricket against Queensland. Green collected 5-53 from 10 overs.
