The Semi Finals of the First Grade Limited-Overs Cup are set to take place this Sunday after all four Quarter Finals fixtures were abandoned without a ball bowled due to wet weather last Sunday.

The implications surrounding the complete washout last Sunday meant that the top four seeded teams all progressed to this Sunday’s semi-finals.

Last season’s finalists Sydney University topped the table this season, and now take on fourth placed Penrith at University Oval. The other semi-final involves the defending champions and second-placed Sydney hosting Randwick-Petersham, who finished third on the One-Day ladder, at Drummoyne Oval.

If both home sides were to win, then we would see a repeat of last year’s decider between defending champions Sydney and Sydney University, however this time University would host the final.

Blues contracted batting duo of Ryan Gibson and Ryan Hackney have been named for Penrith for the semi-final against Sydney University.

Gibson has been in red-hot form all season and leads the run-scorers in Premier Cricket with 895 runs from 17 innings at a solid average just below 56. In the First Grade Limited-Overs Cup, the right hander has scored 254 runs at 63.5 with a highest score of 188, his season’s best.

Gibson also captained the NSW XI against the England Lions in a 50-over match on Tuesday and smashed 87 from 80 balls, hitting five fours and five sixes.

Blues and Sixers allrounder Hayden Kerr has been named for the students. Kerr took the field for the Sixers in five KFC Big Bash League games and has also played a One-Day match for the Blues against Tasmania in Hobart in November.

Kerr played for the NSW XI against the England Lions on Tuesday where he took a wicket.

University captain Liam Robertson is seventh on the Premier Cricket run-scoring table this season, hitting 777 runs from 17 innings at an average just below 52, including two centuries and top score of 133, which came during the Limited-Overs Cup.

Robertson has 280 One-Day runs to his name this season at an average of 70.

Big Bash leading wicket-taker Daniel Sams has been named for Randwick-Petersham for the semi-final against Sydney. The left-arm seamer took 30 wickets from 17 matches for the Sydney Thunder during BBL|09.

He now has the most wickets ever by a Sydney Thunder bowler in the Big Bash with 45 taken in his first two seasons for the club at the excellent average of 17.26.

Sams also took the field for the NSW XI against the England Lions on Tuesday and claimed one wicket.

Off-spinner Ben Manenti has been named to captain Sydney. Manenti represented the NSW XI against the England Lions on Tuesday and took 2-50 from eight overs and hit a quick 22 from 21 balls batting at number 10.

He also played five matches for the Sydney Sixers during their BBL|09 championship season sealed last Saturday night at the SCG.

Fast bowler Nic Bills has also been named for Sydney and is second on the Premier Cricket wicket-taking list with 41 scalps from 21 matches at a 22.32 average and a best of 6-46, six of those scalps coming in the Limited-Overs Cup.

Sydney are seeking to couple their Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup trophy this season with another short format title.
