Thirteen wickets fell on day one of the Marsh Sheffield Shield fixture in Hobart with the NSW Blues dismissed not long after Tea.
NSW was dismissed by Tasmania for 195 on Friday after being asked to bat first on a seamer-friendly surface at Blundstone Arena. In reply, the hosts are 3/63.
Charlie Wakim (28 not out) and Ben McDermott (3 not out) are unbeaten at the crease.
Blues fast bowler Sean Abbott claimed the three wickets to fall.
In his return match for NSW after touring South Africa with the Australian T20 squad, Abbott finished day one with 3-21 from eight overs.
Opener Nick Larkin, 45 from 113 balls, showed sturdy resistance for the Blues on a difficult day for batting.
NSW debutant this season Daniel Solway (32) provided good support.
Former St George quick in NSW Premier Cricket, Nathan Ellis, continued the remarkable start to his Sheffield Shield career claiming his second successive six-wicket haul for Tasmania.
After making his debut against Western Australia last week, at the same venue, Ellis finished with 6-43 from 20 overs taking him to 15 First Class wickets in three innings.
Seamer Gabe Bell (4-45) was the other wicket taker for Tasmania.
