Helene Goadsby from Singleton last night received a Distinguished Long Service Award at the 2020 NSW Community Sports Awards for her contribution to Cricket.

The Awards recognised outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW which is largely carried out by a volunteer workforce.

Goadsby was one of 21 recipients from a wide cross-section of sports to receive an Award.

Goadsby has served the Greater Hunter Cricket region with dedication and distinction since 1990 when her son began playing Under 10's in Singleton. She took on the District Cricket Association Secretary role that year and still serves this position today. She has also served as representative Secretary and Official Scorer for the Singleton representative teams.

In 1990, she joined the Hunter Valley Junior Cricket Council (HVJCC) Executive Committee and became Secretary two years later. Her tenure at HVJCC has included roles as Secretary, Treasurer, Recorder and Cricket Carnival Convener and she continues today to serve on the Executive.

In addition, Goadsby joined the Hunter Valley Cricket Council (HVCC) in 2011 and took on the role as Treasurer a role she continues to currently fulfil. She has undertaken the role of Assistant Secretary at this organisation since 2017. She also been a delegate for the HVCC & HVJCC to the Central North Zone.

Sport NSW Chairperson, Carolyn Campbell said Goadsby was a worthy Award recipient.

“Sport in NSW relies on people such as Helene who have voluntarily dedicated their time over many decades. Put simply, sport would not exist without them. It is fitting these Distinguished Long Service Award recipients are recognised and honoured,” said Ms Campbell.

“Without these hard-working, selfless volunteers, tens of thousands of boys and girls, men and women, would not be able to enjoy the health, social and community benefits sport provides. Sport remains at the heart of communities across NSW and has the unique ability to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together,” added Ms Campbell.
