Lendlease Breakers and Sydney Sixers allrounder Ellyse Perry, and wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy, are among four Australian players to feature in the inaugural Women’s T20 Challenge exhibition match in India on 22 May.

The fixture will be played ahead of the VIVO IPL 2018 first qualifier at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Perry, Healy, South Australian opening bowler Megan Schutt and Queensland batter Beth Mooney will join a host of leading stars from India, New Zealand and England who will feature in the match.

IPL Chairman Mr Rajeev Shukla confirmed on Tuesday that the match will be telecast live across the world.

Member of Committee of Administrators and former India captain, Diana Edulji, said the match was an important development for women’s cricket.

“We are excited to announce the first-of-its-kind exhibition match involving our women cricketers,” Edulji said.

“The BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) has been pulling out all stops to promote and nurture women’s cricket and this is a small yet significant step towards a prospective league involving women’s stars in the future.”

Perry showed her immense value as a T20 player during the third edition of the Women’s Big Bash League in 2017/18.

She amassed 552 runs at the impressive average of 46.00 throughout the tournament and led the Sixers to back-to-back titles. She was the leading run-scorer for WBBL|03.

Perry is currently rated the number one female batter and allrounder in the world according to International Cricket Council rankings.

Healy also enjoyed a successful campaign for the Sixers in WBBL|03. She claimed the most dismissals for the tournament with eight catches and six stumpings. The wicketkeeper-batter also posted 421 runs at 26.31.

The two teams will be captained by Sydney Thunder and India allrounder, Harmanpreet Kaur, and her national team mate, Smriti Mandhana.
