The National Selection Panel (NSP) has chosen a 23-player preliminary list for the Qantas Australian men’s tour of the West Indies, including eight NSW Blues.

Bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa and rookie Tanveer Sangha will be joined by experienced batters Steve Smith, David Warner and all rounder Moises Henriques.

The preliminary list gives selectors a solid base from which to choose a final touring party in the coming weeks while allowing players to prepare.

National selector Trevor Hohns said Sangha was well rated by the selectors.

“Tanveer Sanga was extremely impressive for the Thunder and we regard him very highly,” Hohns said.

“While he didn’t play in New Zealand it was a great opportunity for a young bowler to be around the group.”

Smith, Starc, Hazlewood, Warner, Henriques, and Cummins return to the squad after missing the recent white ball tour of New Zealand.

“Having players of that calibre back in the squad is critical to the build-up to the T20 World Cup and refining the balance of the team over the coming months,” Hohns said.

The squad is due to depart for the West Indies in late June.
