NSW Blues skipper Peter Nevill says his side will take some renewed confidence into its JLT Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria at Drummoyne Oval beginning on Tuesday.
The Blues have won both their matches after the resumption of the Shield season post BBL break, with wins over Western Australia and Queensland seeing them consolidate second position on the table.
However, while Nevill says the Blues will take plenty of positives away from their most recent performances, his side will need to be at their best to beat Victoria who are the only team to have defeated NSW this season.
“Two good wins on the trot, so a lot of confidence to take into this game,” Nevill said.
“Victoria are the only team that have beaten us all year, and when we were down in Melbourne they taught us a lesson.
“(There’s) a lot to prove in this match for us.”
A stunning second innings bowling performance at the Gabba last week saw the Blues take ten wickets in a session to complete a comprehensive win over Queensland.
Nevill highlighted the ability of his side to make the best of contrasting conditions as something which has pleased him as the season progresses.
“It’s pretty rare for us to be able to go to Perth and beat WA, and then go to Brisbane and beat Queensland on their own wickets, obviously very different conditions to what we are used to here,” Nevill explained.
‘To be able to win in different conditions is very important and I’m really pleased to see us doing that.”
With only two rounds remaining, the Drummoyne fixture has some added importance for a Blues side hungry to make the Final.
“First things first we have got to get into the Final,” Nevill said.
“Obviously a big game for us here, that if we can knock off Victoria, we’re very, very, very likely that we’re in the Final.”
