Tasmania has defeated the NSW Blues by nine wickets in three days at Blundstone Arena, Hobart.
The Marsh Sheffield Shield fixture ended during the final session on Sunday with openers Jordan Silk (67 not out) and Alex Doolan (47) scoring the majority of the 129 runs required. Tasmania finished 1/132.
NSW resumed day three at 3/105 but was dismissed for 203 in the second session. Fast bowler Sean Abbott, 35 from 40 balls, and Jack Edwards (21) provided handy runs.
Nathan Lyon (1-25) picked up the wicket of Doolan caught in the deep.
Despite the loss, the Blues remain on top of the Sheffield Shield table with one round remaining. NSW travel to Perth to play Western Australia.
Fast bowler Nathan Ellis claimed nine wickets for Tasmania during the match including 6-43 in the first innings.
Ellis, who plied his trade for St George and Randwick Petersham in NSW Premier Cricket before moving to the Apple Isle, has claimed 18 wickets in his first four Shield innings with the ball.
Daniel Solway (41) was the first wicket to fall on Sunday taking his debut season’s tally to 498 runs at an average of 55.3.
The Blues lost four wickets in the first session, and were 7/181, before the innings quickly came to an end after lunch.
In his return match for the Blues, after returning from his tour of South Africa with the Australian T20 squad, Abbott claimed 4-52 from 23 overs during the first innings.
