A mixed batting performance by NSW Metro has seen the side bowled out for 260 on the opening day of the four-day Toyota Futures League match against Victoria at Ringwood on Monday.
Victoria was 0/5 at stumps in reply.
Prolific McDonald’s Premier Cricket batsman and Parramatta captain Nick Bertus top-scored with 64 from 114 balls with 11 fours while fellow NSW Blues squad member Ryan Gibson made 63 from 115 balls with six fours.
The next best scores were Param Uppal with 32 and Daniel Sams with 30.
Blues captain Peter Nevill (10) won the toss and batted with a squad that had 10 contracted NSW players and rookies.
The only uncontracted player was Dan Solway, who had made 352 runs at the outstanding average of 88 going into this match. However, he was the first dismissed, managing just six.
There were some useful partnerships, with Solway’s opening partner Jordan Gauci (21) and Bertus adding 56 then Bertus and Gibson adding 61.
Later in the innings Uppal and Sams added 60, highlighting that five players passed 20 but no one cashed in with a big score.
NSW Metro lost its last four wickets for 21 runs.
