Ryan Hackney has continued his domination at national underage level with a century for NSW Metro Under 19s in a tie against Tasmania on Monday.

Hackney scored 133 not out on the opening day of the Under 19 National Championships in Tasmania, helping his side recover from 3-38 to post 4-269 from their 50 overs after being sent in.

But Tasmania scoring 12 runs off the final over to finish their allotted overs at 9-269.

Remarkably, Hackney’s innings was his third consecutive century at the Under 19 National Championships, after back-to-back tons in the final two matches of the 2016-17 tournament.

Last season Hackney scored three centuries and a 97 not out during the Under 19 National Championships and in 2015-16 he made three hundreds for the NSW Metro Under 17s.

The left-handed opener, one of 28 players in Australia’s preliminary ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup squad, smashed five sixes in his 137-delivery innings on Monday.

Half-centuries from Baxter Holt (55 off 77) and Aiden Bariol (50 not out off 50) also contributed to a strong NSW Metro total.

With heavy rain hitting Tasmania over the weekend, the NSW Metro v Tasmania clash was the only one to get underway, with the remaining four games being abandoned.
