Campbelltown-Camden District Cricket and the Sydney Cricket Association has lost one of its much-admired contributors and friends with the passing of Allan Connolly age 69.
During the last 26 years, Mr Connolly was the welcoming face for every NSW Premier Cricket club and umpire that visited the Raby Sports Complex as part of Match Day Operations for the Campbelltown-Camden District Cricket Club.
He is the longest serving Campbelltown-Camden President, having served eight seasons between 2000-08, and made a Life Member in 2008.
Mr Connolly was a member of the SCA Committee of Management from 2003 to 2014. He was a delegate to the NSW Cricket Association and SCA from 1999 to the end of the 2016/17 season.
He also did tremendous work developing women’s teams at the Campbelltown-Camden Ghosts and was a strong supporter of Women’s Premier Cricket.
Mr Connolly was central to the development of Raby Sports Complex into one of the most highly regarded Premier Cricket facilities in Sydney.
His efforts working with Cricket NSW, state and local government helped build new dressing rooms, an indoor training facility and club room that all members of Campbelltown-Camden, and cricketers across the state, now enjoy.
Such was his influence as an administrator that the new Pavilion at Raby Sports Complex is named “The Allan Connolly Pavilion”.
For more than 30 years, as a player and administrator, Mr Connolly committed countless hours every summer to grassroots cricket, at a senior and junior level, in Campbelltown and the Macarthur region.
In the words of Campbelltown-Camden Secretary, Jason Ellsmore, Mr Connolly “was passionately committed to the development of cricket in the Macarthur region.”
“He leaves behind a magnificent legacy for many future generations of cricketers,” Ellsmore said.
Former Chair of the SCA Women’s Committee, Jessica Henry, also passed on her condolences.
“I’m truly saddened to hear of Allan’s passing. (He) was always one of the Women’s competition’s most enthusiastic supporters,” said Henry.
Mr Connolly passed away on Monday.
