An amazing 12 months for the ‘Bull’, who took the step into Test cricket, cemented his position in the national one-day and T20 sides, and produced some incredible performances for both the NSW SpeedBlitz Blues and Sydney Thunder.
This incredible period started back in September, 2011, when David scored back-to-back centuries for New South Wales in the Champions League in India. This was the first time that any player had scored consecutive hundreds in this form of the game and although New South Wales exited in the semi-finals, David went from strength to strength on return to these shores, getting selected to make his Test debut against New Zealand in Brisbane in December. In only his second Test he scored a superb 123no against the Kiwis in Hobart, and followed it up with a breathtaking 180 against India in Perth.
His superb run continued with a match-winning 102 not out for the Sydney Thunder in their opening Big Bash match against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG, and he was rewarded with the vice-captaincy of the National T20 side as a sign that selectors saw his leadership qualities shining through. After lengthy negotiation, David signed for cross-town rivals the Sydney Sixers for season 2012-13.
