Welcome to the Scorers' page of the NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association.
2008/09 Season `TAMWORTHFEST’ Yes, the annual NSWCU&SA Convention is fast approaching. This year it will be held in the New England District of NSW at lovely Tamworth. Date: Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August Venue: Diggers Club, Kable Avenue, Tamworth We invite you to join us to hear interesting guest speakers and very topical and practical scorer related sessions throughout the weekend and also to enjoy the company of our fellow umpires and scorers. The association is organising a bus (cost $35/person), so if you don’t want to drive, this is a great way to get to and from Tamworth. Contact darrell.hair@cricketnsw.com.au for more information. The following link will give you a selection of accommodation types. http://www.hotelscombined.com.au/City/Tamworth.htm So why not consider coming along for a great weekend of information & good company. ******************************************************** CONGRATULATIONS TO MERILYN FOWLER The NSW Sports Federation Officials Recognition Scheme acknowledges and rewards outstanding achievements in and contributions towards officiating in sport in 4 categories. Merilyn has been honoured by the New South Wales Sports Federation by winning the Outstanding Official International/National award. The award summary said that, `Merilyn has completed 23 seasons of cricket scoring making her 1st class debut in 1996. She has since scored 38 International matches and 59 domestic first class matches. In the nomination period Merilyn scored an ICC Test Match and an ICC One Day International in January, 2 Sheffield Shield matches in November and December and an International Tour Match in November. Merilyn has been invited by MCC to score the Ashes Test Match at Lord’s starting on 16 July 2009 becoming the first scorer (male or female) to gain such recognition.’ On behalf of our scorer members, we would like to congratulate Merilyn on this well deserved achievement and wish her good luck on her journey to Lord’s for her final and 10th Test Match! ******************************************************** REMINDER TO PLEASE EXERCISE YOUR VOTE! All members should by now have received ballot papers for the election of Office Bearers and Board Members for the upcoming season. Remember ballot papers, correctly completed, must be received in the Association office no later than 10am on Wednesday 1 July. NO VOTING WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE AGM. ******************************************************** We extend a warm welcome to all the scorers who have recently joined our ranks. If you are a guest to our site, please don't hesitate to hit the 'Contact Us' button if you have any queries about scoring - whether it be basic paper scoring, linear scoring or computer scoring. We will endeavour to answer any query you have as quickly as possible. We hope that this site provides an insight into our Association and that you find the site both interesting and informative. All scorer training courses conducted by the Scorers' Committee of the NSWCU&SA will be advertised on this page. Once again, please feel free to contact us with any queries or comments you have. ************************************************************************************************************************ Training Courses: * Scorers training courses cost just $20.00 per person for which you will receive face to face theoretical and practical tuition from accredited scorer trainers of the NSWCU&SA, a copy of the manual entitled "Cricket Scoring - The Basics and Beyond" which covers information for both beginner and the more advanced scorer (retail price $20.00), a 'ready reference' sheet of signals, symbols and dismissals suitable to be kept in a scorebook (value $5.00), the MCC Laws of Cricket book (retail price $5.50) as well as the opportunity to sit the scorers introductory examination on-line for free (usually $15.00). The examination can be attempted in the comfort of your own home at a time to suit you and you can attempt the examination as many times as you wish over a maximum two week period.
