We would like to welcome all members and interested non-members to this site. We hope that you will find lots of information that is interesting and/or helpful to you.

The season is now over. Congratulations to those of you who were appointed to umpire or score major end-of-season matches. Hopefully you all acquitted yourself at the high standards you have achieved all season. We also congratulate the premiers in the various grades and competitions. We also take the opportunity to thank captains who have assisted us in monitoring the performances of our members by completing captains' reports and providing vital feedback.

Our Education and Development Manager reports that as of the first week of July we are only 12 weeks away from the start of 2008-09 season. What are your goals for next season? What do you need to start doing NOW to make those goals a reality? What can your Association do to assist?

What are you doing TODAY to assist in improving your performance for next season? Talk to your mentor. Challenge yourself to achieve your perfomance goals - and then exceed them.

The City to Surf fun run is fast approaching (10 August). How many of our members intend to test their fitness in this wonderful event, I wonder? I will be there - will you?

We hope that this page provides an insight into our association and keeps you up-to-date with happenings in Sydney and Country umpiring and scoring, as well as items of interest from around the world. Check in regularly.

	If the answer is Warnapura, what is the question?

	Who was the first bastman in history to be subjected to an appeal under the Player Referral Scheme (PRS)? For the record, after an appeal for LBW off Anil Kumble's bowling was turned down, the Indians asked for the third umpire to review the decision. Rudi Koertzen agreed with the decision of the on-field umpire and Malinda Warnapura's innings continued. (He made an unbeaten century on the day too!)

	Dr David Dilley elected Chairperson for next two seasons

	At last night's meeting, your Board of Directors elected Dr David Dilley to be our Chair for the next two seasons. We congratulate DDD on his election and wish him well. We also take the opportunity to thank outgoing chair, Tim Donahoo, for his service over the past two seasons.

	Criteria for Player Referral (PRS) announced by ICC

	As we know, the ICC will be trialling a system of Player Referrals during the series between Sri Lanka and India whereby the decisions of the umpires may be 'reviewed' if the players are dissatisfied. The ICC have released the conditions for the trial. They make very interesting reading. They are reproduced here from the Cricinfo website. 22 cameras will be in place to "help eliminate doubt" and Hawkeye will be in use - but only up until the point of imapct - and no Snickometer or Hotspot! What do you think? I would be interested in feedback and/or comments on the conditions themselves and on the trial as it proceeds.

Umpire Training Course to be held in Parramatta District

A training course for aspiring cricket umpires will be hosted by Parramatta District CUA next month.

The course will be conducted over three nights with each session being held at Ted Burge Complex (South Wentworthville), starting at 6.30pm.

Chudleigh and Fowler to Present Courses in Dhaka

NSWCUSA Life Member Graham Chudleigh and former first class Umpire Nick Fowler have been invited to deliver key umpiring Courses in Dhaka in September on behalf of Cricket Australia and Bangladesh Cricket Board.

	Player Referral System trials occurring over the next three weeks

	As reported here earlier, the ICC will trial a system whereby the fielding and batting sides will be allowed three unsuccessful appeals to the umpire per innings in the series between India and Sri Lanka. Three 'neutral' umpires have been appointed for the trial - Rudi Koertzen, Billy Doctrove and Mark Benson.

	Cricket Australia has announced details of the upcoming interstate season in Sheffield Shield, Ford Ranger Cup and Twenty20 Big Bash.

	Cricket Australia and Weet-Bix bring Sheffield Shield back

	The accompanying Cricket Australia media release brings the wonderful news for traditionalists that the Pura Cup (formerly the Pura Milk Cup) is no more and the competition for intersate cricket has reverted to the name that many of us never stopped using - the Sheffield Shield.

	Would you like to become a cricket Scorer?

	Some amendments have been made to the information provided last week for the scorers course. The Scorers� Committee of the Association is conducting a Training Course later this month. The Training Course will be held in the Board Room at Cricket NSW commencing at 6.30pm on Tuesday 29 July. The evening will conclude by 9.30pm.
