We would like to welcome everyone to our umpiring site. We are certain that you will find lots of information that is interesting and/or helpful to you. We are currently in the midst of updating various areas of this website however, most importantly we now have available an updated membership and examination system.

As part of our launch, we are offering visitors the opportunity to try our examination free of charge for the whole month of May. However, we recommend that you attend our training courses to obtain a complete understanding of the why’s and wherefore’s of umpiring. Our next course starts at the Cricket NSW lecture theatre on Thursday 16th July 2009 and will run over 5 consecutive Thursday evenings beginning at 6.30pm.

However, if your curiosity cannot be contained and you would like to attempt the examination, please click on the “Visitors” link on the menu. When the welcome page comes up, click on “Prospective Member Signup” and complete the details requested. You will then be able to attempt the examination of 60 randomly selected questions on the Laws of Cricket. Good luck!

For our current members (both umpires and scorers), to access your membership details and to undertake the examinations, you will now need to log on by clicking on the “Members Area” link on the menu. You will be greeted with a sign in page and before you can access the examination where you should click on “First time here”. You will be asked to enter your membership number, surname and date of birth and then create a password. (There are some members for whom we do not have a D.O.B. registered so if the system does not accept you first time, repeat the process and use the current date as a default D.O.B.) Finally, click “activate account” to complete the process.

Once you have created your password and signed in you will be able to see your membership details and you can make changes to your address, telephone, email and enter your date of birth if necessary. Please ensure that these details are always kept up to date. When you make any changes make certain you click on “save changes” before exiting the system.

With our Annual Dinner consumed and the achievers acknowledged, the season is now behind us but it's important we continue our self assessment. Ask yourself honestly how you feel you performed this season. Have you achieved the goals you set yourself at the start of the season? Do other sources (captains, players, coaches etc) reflect your own views or are there areas where they differ? What can you learn from that?

We congratulate this season's achievers, particularly the winners of our two most prestigious awards - Nick Wennerbom (the George Borwick Memorial Award) and Peter Weston (the EF Wykes OAM Association Medal). The gentlemen after whom those awards were named would be very proud of you! Please visit the news area to find out more about the full list of achievers.

Umpiring in cricket is a great experience and the opportunity to work your way through the various grades is a great challenge. And who knows - that young leggie bowling from your end in fourth grade just might be the next Shane Warne - and you were there to watch him kick start his career.
