Fresh from the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes, Alex Blackwell, Rachael Haynes, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry and Sarah Aley have rejoined their Lendlease Breakers team-mates for back to back fixtures being played in Perth this weekend.
The current WNCL champions, who are also undefeated in the 2017/18 competition so far, departed for Perth today, where they will meet Western Fury on Saturday, 25 November, and the ACT Meteors on Sunday, 26 November.
With the WNCL about to enter hiatus over December while the WBBL is played, these will be crucial fixtures as the Breakers look to cement their position at the top of the table.
“Going into a weekend of back to back games it’s important that we are not just physically prepared, but mentally as well. We’ve had a number of key players away with the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes and it’s important that we come together as a unit,” said coach Jo Broadbent.
“With players coming in and out with the Ashes and CA XI we’ve at times only had six or seven people at training. This has been a really great number to work with and has given us the opportunity to get into more specifics with those players.”
On the squad’s make up for the weekend Broadbent said, “I think we’ve got a really good balance in the group. We’ve brought in some spinners in Saskia Horley and Maisy Gibson who will really compliment the pace offered by Ellyse Perry, Rene Farrell, Lisa Griffith and Sarah Aley.”
Broadbent concludes, “WA and ACT are strong teams with some stand out players in Elyse Villani and Nicole Bolton and the South African internationals Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp. We’re expecting these to be two tough games and we are going to make sure that we pick the best XI to face these teams on the day.”
The Lendlease Breakers squad for this weekend are:
Alex Blackwell (Captain)
Ellyse Perry (Vice-Captain)
