Significant umpiring appointments for Wilds, Treloar
NSW umpires Tony Wilds and Ben Treloar have received significant umpiring appointments.
Wilds was elevated to Cricket Australia’s 12-man National Umpire Panel for the coming season after being close for the past three years.
Treloar has been promoted by Cricket Australia from the NSW State Umpire Panel to CA’s Development Umpire Panel, replacing Tony Wilds.
Cricket Australia Match Officials Manager Sean Easey said: “It is extremely pleasing to see Tony Wilds make the step up to the National Umpire Panel after a number of years as a member of our Development Umpire Panel and we wish him well as he takes this next step in his career.
“Following several strong seasons in the pathway, Ben Treloar thoroughly deserves his opportunity at this level and we look forward to seeing them in action throughout the 2017-18 season.”
Wilds lives in Bathurst and would leave home at 5am on a Saturday to officiate in Sydney Premier Cricket, returning home about midnight.
“I’m a bush boy and I also used to umpire soccer and touch football but I decided to concentrate on cricket and it has certainly been a rewarding experience,” Wilds said.
“Cricket Australia have giving me fantastic opportunities with Sheffield Shield, Big Bash and Matador Cup matches but it has been tough juggling umpiring with a full-time job.
“Joining the National Umpiring Panel I will be able to devote more time to umpiring and I am grateful for that.
