South Australia has fought back on day three of the Sheffield Shield match against NSW, bowling the Blues out for 434.

Callum Ferguson (103) hit a patient century to help get his team to 5-228, leading by 23

He was well supported by Travis Head (55) and Jake Lehmann (46), before he became Mason Crane’s second wicket.

Ferguson’s innings was all the more vital for his team after they lost early wickets facing a substantial deficient in the second innings.

Earlier a fighting innings from Pat Cummins ensured the Blues reached 434, a 205-run lead heading into the second innings.

The overnight batsmen Ed Cowan (125) and Peter Nevill (17) were dismissed early on day three, and it was up to the lower order to build the lead.

Trent Copeland (18) and debutant Mason Crane (15no) also contributed vital runs.
