NSW umpires Gerard Abood and Simon Lightbody have been recognised for their outstanding commitment, hard work and consistent performance.
Gerard has been elevated to the ICC International Umpire Panel while Simon has been promoted to the Cricket Australia National Umpire Panel.
After a playing career with Premier Club Western Suburbs and Shires club Burwood Briars Gerard joined the NSW Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association in 2000.
He has now stood in 48 first-class matches since being elevated to the National Umpire Panel in 2009/10.
Simon joined NSWCUSA in 2010, showing amazing perseverance by travelling from Canberra each weekend during the season to umpire First Grade in NSW Premier Cricket.
He has worked his way patiently through the Cricket Australia Umpiring Pathway, standing in National Underage Championships, U/19 Internationals, WNCL and WBBL fixtures.
Simon has been umpiring State Second XI matches in the Cricket Australia Cup and Futures League since 2008-09 and last season made his first-class debut standing in a Sheffield Shield match in Hobart.
Executive officer of NSWCUSA Darren Goodger congratulated the pair on their promotion.
“Gerard and Simon have both bounced back from adversity on their umpiring journey,” Mr Goodger said.
“It made them tougher, it focused their goal setting, and made them determined to prove and improve. They are fine role models for all match officials. “
