Mitchell Starc and Phillip Hughes, both recently arrived in England, made the most of some fine recent weather to produce good performances yesterday in the English County Championship.

Starc, who was only able to begin his stint with Yorkshire in the past two weeks due to a visa issue, was impressive on day one of Yorkshire’s match against Northants at Headingly, taking 2-64, as Northants were bowled out for 253. Starc is part of a solid Yorkshire attack that includes former England swing bowler Ryan Sidebottom and all-rounder Anthony McGrath.

Phillip Hughes, who started his time with Worcestershire with a century in a one-day match last weekend, continued his good form with 53, as he and Daryl Mitchell put on 100 for the first wicket against Somerset at the County Ground, Worcester.

Worcestershire, finished the day on 3-270, in one of the few matches where the bat dominated the ball in what are still bowler-friendly conditions.

Usman Khawaja will fly to England in the next two weeks to start his stint with Derbyshire.
