Round 18 of the Sydney Women’s First Grade competition was completed yesterday (February 19) with Bankstown Sports, St George-Sutherland and Gordon the winners.
St George-Sutherland scored a big nine wicket win over Campbelltown-Camden at Raby Oval.
Winning the toss and choosing to field first, St George-Sutherland bowled their rivals out for 148 in 46 overs. They then took just 20 overs to reach the victory target with Leah Poulton (81) and Kath Koschel (50 not out) setting up the chase with a brutal opening partnership worth over 100 runs.
Bankstown Sports defeated Northern District by four wickets in their clash at Jensen Oval.
Northern District batted first to post 151 in 47.3 overs. Playing against her old club, Katie Mack top scored with 60 with Claire Jones (24), Wui-Kwan Wong (23) and Michaela Turik (21) also contributing the cause.
Bankstown Sports’ openers Carly Ryan (16) and Laura Wright (31) laid the platform for the chase with a 48 run first wicket stand before a string of middle order wickets to Wui-Kwan Wong (3-24), Katie Mack (1-28) and Jenny Taffs (1-17) got Northern District back into the game.
At 5-100, the game could’ve gone either way, however, some calm batting from Rhiannon Dick (24) and Emma Newman (20 not out) saw the defending premiers home with four wickets and plenty of overs to spare.
Gordon kept their place in the top four with a four wicket win over Sydney at ELS Hall.
Sydney chose to bat first in the match but did not make the most of their opportunities, bowled out for 119 in 36.1 overs. Alyssa Healy top scored with 49 from 52 balls while for Gordon, Emma Doutreband took 3-6 with Lisa Sthalekar (2-19), Emily Leys (2-37), Jo Lawson (1-15) and Victoria King (1-21) the other wicket takers.
Gordon were guided home by veteran, Lisa Sthalekar, who made 40 off 50 balls. Victory came in the 32nd over.
