NSW SpeedBlitz Blues batsman, Simon Katich
An update from the IPL and English County Championship, saw NSW SpeedBlitz Blues’ members David Warner, Simon Katich and Timm van der Gugten featuring over recent nights.
David Warner opened the batting for the Delhi Daredevils in their IPL clash with Kings XI Punjab, and after losing the toss and being set 137 for victory, was dismissed early for 14 with the score at 1-21. A crucial half century by Mahela Jayawardene (56no) guided Delhi over the line in the 19th over to win the match by 5 wickets.
On the opening day of the English County clash between Yorkshire and Hampshire, NSW SpeedBlitz Blues batsman Simon Katich went head to head against former squad member Phil Jaques, while recently arrived paceman Mitchell Starc looked on. Hampshire, who won the toss and elected to bat first in the four-day clash, took the honours on the opening day thanks to a superb hundred from Katich. Losing early wickets and falling to 3/55, a big score was needed and Katich delivered, reaching 180 not out at stumps from 240 balls. He was well supported by lower order batsman Michael Bates (88no), as Hampshire closed at 5/352 on day one.
In a List A (40-over) match between the Netherlands and Middlesex, NSW SpeedBlitz Blues rookie Timm van der Gugten represented the Netherlands, in a team which also included South Australian and Adelaide Strikers players, Tom Cooper and Cameron Borgas. Taking a wicket and making 3no for the match, Van der Gugten and the Netherlands went on to lose the fixture by eight wickets (with 16 balls remaining).
