Cricket NSW and the NSW / ACT AFL will this weekend present a joint Multicultural Carnival to promote cricket amongst children from a Multicultural background. NSW SpeedBlitz Blues batsman Phillip Hughes and Lend Lease Breakers star Lisa Sthalekar, will be on hand at Bankstown Oval on Saturday, to promote an initiative aimed at engaging Primary School children in the fun that can be had by playing Cricket and AFL.
Fun Cricket and AFL activities, Face Painting, Animal Expo and a BBQ will form the basis of the Carnival that will look to promote Cricket and reinforce Cricket NSW’s strong commitment to Cultural Diversity throughout the State.
Cricket NSW Emerging Markets Manager Sam Almaliki, himself a former refugee from Iraq, has been a driving force behind the day : “Cricket has an enormous capacity to facilitate a harmonious society and assist with the settlement of new Australian’s. I know of this too well through my very own journey and with this advantageous capacity, cricket has a responsibility, and an opportunity, to bring about wonderful social outcomes”.
