While the Sri Lanka Under 19s held on for a draw in the three-day match against Australia Under 19s which finished yesterday, NSW youngsters Jack Edwards and Ryan Hadley enjoyed a strong start to the series posting noteworthy performances.
Australia all-rounder Jack Edwards, brother of NSW Blues fast bowler Mickey Edwards, was named Player of the Match for his first innings century, which alongside a century from fellow all-rounder Jonathan Merlo allowed the hosts to control the running of the game after a first innings of 6-309 declared.
While fast bowler Ryan Hadley was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings, finishing with 4-41.
Australia skipper Will Sutherland declared his side’s second innings at 8-142, setting Sri Lanka 268 for victory with just under two sessions of play remaining on the final day.
Sri Lanka was 7-201 at the close of play, with captain Kamindu Mendis (41 off 104 deliveries) and Nipun Sumanasinghe (31 not out), performances which allowed the Sri-Lankan side to hold on for a draw.
