A clinical Lendlease Breakers team took on Victoria Spirit in their second game of the WNCL opening weekend, at Blacktown International Sports Park on Sunday, 8 October.

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Rachael Haynes (83) and Alyssa Healy (68) went in to bat. Dealing in singles and fours, they set a strong opening wicket partnership of 123. Giving the Breakers a solid foundation for the team to build on.

Captain Alex Blackwell once again showed pure class, notching up 77 which included three sixes, while Ellyse Perry made 30, before losing a succession of quick wickets to close the innings 9-302.

At the start of the Victorian innings pace-bowlers Rene Farrell (2-38, 3.80 econ) and Ellyse Perry (1-23, 3.29 econ) once again combined well to apply real pressure to the openers. It was spinner Lauren Smith who got the breakthrough though, taking the wicket of Makinley Blows LBW and leaving Victoria 1-55. Which was followed by Nicola Carey taking 3-26 (2.64) econ).

This left Victoria scoring at a rate of 3.88 an over needing a run rate of 9.25 with 20 overs remaining.

Perry then trapped Strano for just 5 as the Breakers gauntlet continued to throttle the VicSpirit run rate until the end of the innings, allowing them to make only 7-212 and securing a win by 90 runs.
