Lendlease Breaker and Australian Women’s Cricket Team all-rounder Ellyse Perry has started her ICC World Cup campaign off with a bang with a solid performance with both bat and ball in the first warm-up match against New Zealand.
Perry made a century before picking up the ball and taking 2-32 at the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground, Southampton.
“It was a great hit out. It’s always awesome playing New Zealand. They’re a fantastic opposition for us and everyone got a chance out in the middle which we really needed after some great prep at home,” said Perry.
Alyssa Healy also looked handy in the middle, making a quick 25 which helped boost Australia’s total to a competitive 287.
New addition to the national side and fellow Lendlease Breaker, Belinda Vakarewa, also had a good start and looked threatening with the ball.
“Belinda had her first bowl for Australia and did really well. She’s threatening and bowls at a really good pace. She attacks the ball, both on the field and with the ball, and she’s a real attribute to the side,” said Perry of her team-mate.
Australia went on to win the match by 46-runs.
