North Coast Zone Umpires Seminar - Coffs Harbour 2/3 August 2008
NORTH COAST ZONE UMPIRES PREPARE FOR SEASON 2008/09

Twenty-three umpires from the North Coast Zone attended a seminar at Coffs Harbour over the weekend of 2/3 August 2008, to hone their skills and update their knowledge of the Laws of Cricket for the season ahead.

Darren Goodger, Training and Development Officer, NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association, ably assisted by Stephen Poole, Liaison Officer, presented an interesting, informative and challenging array of topics on the Laws of Cricket. The North Coast Zone Umpires were also tested on their knowledge of the Laws of Cricket with individual quizzes and group work which tested the umpires but also indicated a good knowledge of the Laws.

The seminar was rounded off with some practical work on the field and some expert guidance by Darren Goodger on umpires working as a team.

All of those attending were enthusiastic and delighted with the outcomes. The Cricket Councils of MNC, NC and FNC are to be congratulated for their support of the seminar.

Central North Zone have eclipsed Central Coast in a tight affair at Lorn Park Maitland to take out the Country Colts Carnival.

Batting first, Central Coast could only manage 143 due to some excellent bowling from Cal Roberts (4-22) and Josh Trappel (3-44). Kaine Harmsworth dominated the Central Coast innings with a superb 74, following on from his 125 against Western Zone and 58 against North Coast to complete a fine carnival.

Some grit and determination from Aaron Flaherty (43) and Andrew Harriott (31) steadied the ship and saw Central North squeak home for the loss of 8 wickets in a match that had all on the edge of their seats.
