2008/09 Season

The Michael Clarke Twenty20 Knockout aims to encourage enjoyment, maximum
participation and spectator appeal whilst allowing players to develop their cricket skills,
knowledge and instinct based on the preface that Twenty20 Cricket is fast, different and can be used as an effective alternative to training.

Along with other forms of Cricket, Twenty20 will assist the growth of our game so
Cricket is the ‘sport of choice' for all Australians.

In the 2008/09 season Cricket NSW will again be running the Michael Clarke Twenty20 Competition in all age groups.  Information will be sent through to Clubs and Associations as soon as the details have been finalised, with a view to inviting as many teams as possible to participate in this years' Competition.

On a dismal day for cricket around Sydney, the Ground staff of the Sydney Cricket Ground worked minor miracles to get the Under 12 Final of the Michael Clarke Twenty20 Knockout Tournament underway as scheduled.

Hornsby DCC won the toss and elected to bat on a beautiful wicket doing just enough to favour the bowlers from West Ryde Rovers.  Michael Frost top scored for Hornsby with a stylish 16 including two majestic boundaries.  Michael was ably supported by Dylan Jugas who compiled a well made 15 assisting Hornsby post 84 in their 20 overs.  Wicket takers for West Ryde Rovers being Tom O'Connell (2/7), Julian Uganotti (2/7), with Tom Collins taking 4 catches.

West Ryde Rovers set about the run chase confidently with Thomas Collins top scoring with a hard hitting 27.  Tom was well supported by Sam McMahon (17) and Sam Lloyd who remained not out 16.  West Ryde Rovers got on a roll and hauled in the tearget score in the 14th over for the loss of just 3 wickets.  Robert Roots (1/10) and Jack Johnson (1/21) were the best of the Hornsby bowlers.

Best Batsman of the final was Tom Collins (27), Best Bowler was shared between Tom O'Connell and Julian Uganotti (2/7) while Sam Lloyd was chosen as player of the final with 16no and 1/6.  The Umpires Chose Robert Roots of Hornsby as their winner of the "Spirit of Cricket Award".

So, West Ryde Rovers earned the title of Michael Clarke Twenty20 Champions for 2007/08.

Depite alll attempts by the Ground Staff and a start/stop effort at holding the U14's match between Kings Langley and St.Patrick's, Sutherland the match was abandoned after 4 overs.  Subsequently the remainder of the days proceedings which included the First Grade and U16 MC Twenty20 Finals were abandoned and will be rescheduled at a date to be detremiend and advised.

Congratulations to all teams for reaching the Finals and we hope you enjoyed your day at the SCG.  Thanks again for your support.
