ISA CRICKET 2008-2009

Welcome to the official home of the ISA (Independent Sporting Association) Open’s Schoolboy’s Cricket Competition
2008/09 Season

This season the ISA competition involves 17 teams representing nine different member schools playing in 3 Open Divisions.  First and Second Divisions comprise 6 teams who will play two rounds – Home and Away and then Semi-Finals and a Final.  Third Division comprises 5 teams again playing two Home and Away rounds, Semi-Finals and a Final but also including two bye rounds. All matches are 50 over/One day fixtures involving a bonus point system which encourages teams to play their 50 overs right out until the end. The ethos of the ISA compeition is for players to compete within the fine traditions of our great game: fair play, sportsmanship, enjoyment and camaraderie both on and off the field.

In the 2007-2008 season the 1st Division Premiers were St Pius X College Chatswood and the 2nd Division Premiers were St Patrick’s College Strathfield.  Recent ISA players who are now playing 1st Grade in the Sydney Grade Competition include Cameron Merchant, Mitchell Cleary and Shane Cleary (St Pius - Manly), Evan Dix, Tim Sallway and John Rush (St Patrick’s - Wests), Luke Donovan (St Patrick's - Sydney), Shane Stanton (Blue Mountains Grammar – Sydney University), Will Gell (Oxley - Sydney University), Owen Babula (Chevalier - Campbelltown), Ryan Smith and Stewart Rhodes (Blue Mountains Grammar - Penrith), Daniel Rixon (St Andrew's - Sutherland), Ed Alcock (St Andrew's - North Sydney) and Timm Vander Guten (St Pius – University of NSW).

Currently ISA players have a pathway to representation for NSW Schoolboys through the CSC (Country Schools Council). Apart from this the ISA has its own representative team which annually plays against the CAS (Combined Associated Schools) and the ASC (Associated Southern Schools – Canberra). This year the CAS fixture will be played at St Patrick’s College Strathfield on Sunday the 22 February.  In a real highlight for players the fixture against the ASC schools will be played at BRADMAN OVAL on Sunday 1 March.

news ISA DEFEAT CAS IN REP FIXTURE
Mon 23-Feb-2009 8:51
The ISA had a fantastic victory over the CAS at Oakhill College on Sunday (22 March).  Batting first on a wicket affected by the recent rain the ISA were in early trouble at 4 for 20 but gritty innings by Justin O’Neil (SPC) 46 and Matthew Mee (SPX) 39 n.o. helped the ISA reach a very respectable 170.  Matthew was involved in a match winning last wicket partnership of over 50 runs with tailender Michael Harvey. In the field the ISA were magnificent in restricting the CAS to 9 for 147 in the 50 overs.  The star was Simon Fox (SPX) 4 for 25 but all the bowlers were on their game and the fielding was of the highest quality. This is a fantastic victory over a team which is about to contest the Lord Taverners Week – NSW Schoolboys Championships.  It is also an important warm up for the match against ASC (Canberra Colleges) on Bradman Oval Bowral this coming Sunday (1 March).  Well done to the team, Coach Tim Gardiner (St Andrews) and Manager Mark Tyler (St Pat’s).
