U/17 Male National Championships
NSW players compete across two teams at the U/17 Male National Championships – NSW Metro and ACT/NSW Country.
The path to the National Championships starts in April each year with the U/16 State Challenge where players from the AW Green Shield and Country Boys Coaching Class take part in three trial matches, which are also the first selection trials for the U/17 Cricket NSW Academy Programs.
An open trial is conducted in early May where all Sydney Grade clubs and Private schools nominate players to attend.
The Cricket NSW Academy Program commences at the end of May with selected players taking part in strength and conditioning, and skills sessions.
The final selection trial is a City vs Country series at the end of August, after which selectors name the squads that will represent NSW Metro and ACT/NSW Country at the National Championships.
These squads will play warm up matches against the U/19 NSW Metro and ACT/NSW Country teams before heading to Brisbane for the tournament (September 26-October 8).
How is the team for the National Championships selected?
Overseen by the Cricket NSW Talent Manager, a panel of selectors will select all sides in the program.
The selection panel can include the following:
- NSW U/17 Pathway Coach
- NSW State Talent Manager
- NSW Metro team coaches
- Cricket ACT High Performance Manager
- NSW Pathway Coach
- ACT/NSW Country team coaches
- Country Selector (approved by Country Committee of Management)
